3 October 2012

Hi All,

The titles we are looking at this month are The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ by Philip Pulman and The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. The feedback so far on both of these titles has so far been excellent and a few people have commented that they are looking forward to the discussions on these books.

The previous months title, Perfume: Story of a Murderer, certainly created a bit of a stir, with some not liking the dark subject matter and others commenting that it was one of the best books they had read although most agreed it was one of the better discussions had concerning a title we have read so far.

In the coming months there will be work commencing on the new cafeteria in the Library. This could have some impact on what room the meetings are held in. Any changes and I will let you know but at this stage I am anticipating that the upcoming meeting will be held in usual spot on the 31st of October.

We also have an upcoming author visit by Ken Hillman. Ken will be discussing his current book Vital Signs: Stories from Intesive Care.  Ken is Professor of Intesive Care at the SWS Clinical School, University of New South Wales and is an actively practising clinician in Intesive Care at Liverpool Hospital.
This we held at Campbelltown Library on 17 October at 7.00pm. For bookings please contact the Library front desk.

Cheers
Dave

30 May 2012

This month Book Club is reading The Waterboys by Peter Docker (evening) and The Happiest Refugee by Anh Do (morning).
The Waterboys is a reimagining of Australian history about a divided Australia, those who have embraced the country and learnt blackfulla ways and those who cling to the imperialist whitefulla imperative of destruction and annihilation.
The Happiest Refugee tells the story of one of Australias favourite comdeians. From his arrival in Australia from Vietnam on a leaky boat with nothing but the clothes on his back, to his families struggles to come to grips with a new country, language and culture, and to his sold out comedy tours and television appearences.
Upcoming titles we will be looking at are Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by patrick Suskind, The Second-Last Woman in England by Maggie Joel and the classics The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck and Animal Farm by George Orwell.
We also have an Upcoming author visit by Donna Mulhearn. For details you can contact me for details on 46454415 or book at the front desk.
